It was Monday morning, the beginning day
of the week. Everything was always the same as usual. At 8 o’clock, Quinn appeared at the
doorstep of the Berrys’ house to pick Rachel up and Rachel
had always greeted her with a feather kiss on Quinn’s lips
before they walked hand in hand to Quinn’s car. Sometimes, they gave
each other more kisses and had a little chat with each other before Quinn took
them to school.
As usual, Quinn gently took Rachel’s hand in hers and started to walk out off the parking lot to
the building of William Mckinley High School. She always
parked her car at the farthest spot away from the building, away from the eyes
of other people. She always held Rachel’s
hand and squeezed it as gently as she could, mumbling some sweet words, which
sometimes Rachel fail to catch but never once those sweet words failed to draw
cute smiles from her face, and Rachel tiptoed to peck her cheek in return.
Quinn always enjoyed the moment like this. She could feel the warm, smooth and soft touch of Rachel’s hand in hers. She always ran her thumb
tenderly on texture of Rachel’s hand and was pleased by
the giggling from her favorite girl. As usual, Quinn threaded
their fingers together and tugged Rachel gently to close the space between them
as much as she could so that Quinn could enjoy the warmth of the girl’s skin much more. Whenever Quinn did that,
Rachel did not hesitate to lift Quinn’s hand and pressed a
light kiss on the back of her hand. And Quinn loved every
minute of it. They always walked slower than usual in
order to buy a lot more time.
However, the perfect moment was always
ruined. When they arrived near the school building, it always
was Rachel who tightened their grip one last time and silently pulled her hand
away, followed by extending the distance between them. No
goodbye kisses, no sweet soft words, no touching, just simply pulling away and
Quinn really really hated this part. So did Rachel. It was always like this every morning.
Quinn hated it, she hated it very much. She hated it when she could not hold Rachel’s
hand in public; she hated it when she could not feel the warmth of Rachel’s hand in hers. And she would hate herself
more if she did not follow Rachel and do what she had wanted for so long. She quickly followed Rachel, who was now in the middle of the
hallway, reaching her hand to grab Rachel’s,
she intertwined their fingers once again. Rachel stopped
walking and turned around to meet the familiar face.
“Quinn?” There were hints of happiness, surprise and confusion in
Rachel’s voice. She did not have to
look around to acknowledge that all curious eyes were staring at them along
with unbelievable voice, gasps and sighs.
“You know, I really really like this. Us
together.” She confirmed her words with a soft shake of
their entwined hands.
“and I love our
time together.” Quinn sent Rachel a very loveable smile.
“But we—” Rachel’s words were cut off by Quinn’s.
“I think we
must rearrange a bit of our usual morning activities.” She
mentioned with a serious voice.
“May I ask what
you suggestion is?” Rachel beamed and asked happily since
Quinn did not seem to care about other people around them. And
Quinn even held her hand tighter.
“Well, I think
we should start off with this.” Quinn took one step closer
to stand beside Rachel.
“and we should
do the same way we’ve done for whole three months.” The two girls walked along side of each other, ignoring all
shocked pairs of the eyes.
“I think it’s fine with me to rearrange our morning activities; however, I
would like to make sure that from now on this would be our usual.”
Rachel asked taking a glance at their hands.
“Yes,
definitely.” Quinn assured “Let me walk
you to your class, okay?” She pulled Rachel tenderly to
the class.
“Quinn?”
“Yeah?”
“They’ve been staying still since you grabbed my hand.”
Rachel gestured to the other still shocked students in the hallway.
“Don’t worry about them. They’ll
be fine as usual.”
